Born in Los Angeles, California, Daubas has had the privilege to call Washington, Hawai’i, France, and Texas her homes. Inspired by the beautiful, albeit turbulent circumstances of her childhood, Daubas often found solace through image making. Now residing in Kansas City, Missouri, she is a lab tech at Process One.
In her work, Daubas' passion for finding every day magic enables her to create cohesive realities and to seek out the inherent connection between all things. To exist in her photographs is to live in a dreamscape - a place of intentional detachment and magical realism. Choosing to shoot exclusively with film, Daubas works hand-in-hand with the splendor of serendipity. Her artistic sight is attributed to four cameras: an Olympus point-and-shoot, a Minolta X-700, a Kodak Retina IIIC, and a twin lens Mamiya C220. The first two provide a simple and instinctual process; the latter two provide intention and analysis. All are characteristics she would apply to herself.
Not keen on limiting herself to any one way of seeing, her current studio practice involves constructing images of inner transcendence through physical collage. Her current, nationwide project, Silent Conversations, focuses on the exchange of dialogue solely through images.
